Get a Free Tree!

Elizabeth Drayer, a local environmental attorney and arbitrator, has offered Clearwater residents a unique chance to put more Get a Free Tree in more yards in a campaign called “A Tree Grows in Clearwater.”

Her challenge: Be one of the first 50 people to plant a native tree and we’ll
pay for it!

There are some requirements:

  • Tree must be native to Pinellas (e.g., slash pine, yaupon holly, Simpson’s stopper, green buttonwood, red maple)
  • 3 gallons or less
  • Limit – 1 per address
  • City of Clearwater residents only

Deadline: You must mail in your tree receipt to be reimbursed. Receipts must be received by Friday, April 29, 2022 (Arbor Day).

Mail to:
A Tree Grows in Clearwater
3175 Hyde Park Drive
Clearwater, FL 33761

Drayer says, “The Pinellas chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society is also a great source of info re native plants and trees that do well in this area.” For more native tree info, visit https://pinellas.fnpschapters.org/data/uploads/flyers/nativetrees.pdf

While Drayer doesn’t push any particular store, she says that Wilcox Nursery in Largo carries many native species and can give planting advice.
