World of Clyde Butcher looks like the quintessential mountaineer with his white beard – but he’s more of a swamp man.

Forty years have passed since he first set foot in the Everglades, wading occasionally up to his neck with his 1800s-style camera through the tea-colored water of the swamps – sometimes in thunderstorms or with alligators or water moccasins swimming past – all in an effort to follow the light.

His photographs are huge – some works in his gallery take up almost an entire wall, for the viewer to better enter a majestic world of wonder that few get to see.

No observer could possibly take in an entire vista in one glance – the eyes must look left and right to appreciate the vastness of the entire landscape. The photograph becomes an experience, rather than a picture.

The public is invited to experience that natural beauty and boldness of Clyde Butcher, the foremost landscape photographic artist in America of the 21st century. His much-sought-after works are exhibited in museums around the world – and tomorrow will be on display in Downtown Clearwater in “America’s Everglades: Through the Lens of Clyde Butcher.”

The Clearwater Public Library System will host a Grand Opening and Book Signing at the Clearwater Main Library on November 6, 2021 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
